Ask any chatbot for a project plan and you get two pages of text in five seconds. You read it through and everything looks right. The problem shows up a week later: the schedule has no dependencies, the budget does not add up, the risks are generic, and asking the same question again gives you a different answer. What is an AI project assistant?

What it will not do for you
- It does not decide. Whether the project starts at all, which quote you accept, who joins the team — those stay human decisions.
- It does not know your internal constraints. If July is a holiday month in your company, or one supply contract is already signed, you have to put that into the plan yourself.
- It does not carry responsibility. In front of a funder, the person who signs the application answers for its content, not the model.
- It does not replace agreement. An action plan the team never said yes to will not work, however neatly the AI formatted it.

How to choose an AI project assistant: six questions
- Is the output structure or prose? If the result is text you still have to retype into a table, you saved writing time, not project management time.
- Do the plan, schedule, budget and risks belong to the same project? In separate files they drift apart on the first change.
- Can you reject the AI's suggestion? A good assistant proposes and explains; a bad one forces.
- Does it understand your language and context? A grant application in your country is not a translation of an English one — the requirements, terms and forms differ.
- How is your data handled? Check where it is stored and whether it is used for training.
- Does it leave a trace? In a grant-funded project the audit trail matters as much as the plan.
