KIK grants — impact you can measure

The Environmental Investment Centre (KIK) funds environmental, energy efficiency and nature conservation projects. What sets these applications apart is measurable environmental impact: not "we will improve the situation" but a specific indicator with a baseline and a target. Projektiassistent helps draw that out of your project.

01 / What the application needs

The pillars of an environmental project application

For environmental projects the centre of gravity in assessment is impact and its durability — what changes, by how much, and whether the change persists after the project ends.

🌱

Measurable environmental impact

A specific indicator with a baseline and a target — energy saved, emissions cut, area restored, waste collected.

🧩

Activity plan

Which works or investments lead to the impact, in what order and on what schedule.

💶

Investment budget

Justified cost lines with co-financing kept separate — budget precision matters especially in investment projects.

♻️

Sustainability

What happens after the project ends: who maintains the result and with what funding.

02 / In practice

Where environmental projects get stuck

The common problem is not the idea but the evidence: impact is described rather than measured, which leaves later reporting hanging.

  • 📊 Impact without an indicator. If impact is not numeric, it cannot be proven in a report later. The AI proposes an indicator and a way to measure it.
  • 📅 Permits and seasonality. For construction and conservation work, permits and seasons are critical assumptions — they go into the stop check, not into a footnote.
  • 🧾 A budget fit for reporting. Investment costs, VAT and own contribution are separated from the start — the way interim and final reports ask for them.

04 / FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is KIK?

The Environmental Investment Centre is Estonia's funder of environmental projects, channelling money from environmental charges and European Union funds into environmental, energy and nature conservation projects.

What does measurable environmental impact mean?

An indicator whose value can be compared before and after the project: energy saved in kWh, emissions reduced, hectares restored, tonnes of waste collected. A description without a number is not impact to an evaluator.

Does Projektiassistent know the rules of a specific call?

It drafts content following the structure typical of environmental projects. The conditions, deadlines and eligible costs of a specific call must be checked on the funder's own site.

Can the same project apply to several funders?

Often yes, but double funding of the same cost is not allowed. In Projektiassistent you can produce separate applications from one project and keep funding sources apart in the budget.

Is a risk analysis needed?

For investment and construction projects, practically always. The risk register is built from the project plan and flows into the application's risk chapter automatically.
